Are you the right candidate?

We're looking for applicants with a demonstrable interest either in Radio, Television or Online programme making and broadcasting.

Candidates should have good interpersonal and communication skills, be creative, adaptable and highly motivated. As well as needing an interest in broadcasting, candidates should have an awareness of BBC Wales and its local output.

Programme-making can be hectic and unpredictable. The successful candidate should be prepared to ask lots of questions and contribute ideas.

Background/Experience

We have placements available in the following areas: 

Radio Cymru NEWS – (Cardiff - over 18 and fluent in Welsh)

We can offer placements of up to one week in the BBC Radio Cymru newsroom in Cardiff. Candidates would learn with one of the station’s news programmes and the bulletins service. A keen interest in news and current affairs is essential for these roles, in addition to the ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh.

Radio Cymru NEWS (BANGOR – over 18 and fluent in Welsh)

"We can offer placements of up to one week in the BBC Radio Cymru newsroom in Bangor. Candidates would learn with one of the station’s news programmes.  A keen interest in news and current affairs is essential for these roles, in addition to the ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh.

Crimewatch Roadshow, Unscripted Productions, BBC Studios, Cardiff (January & February only - over 18)

Crimewatch Roadshow is the flagship daytime crime series for BBC 1 featuring reconstructions, live OB and studio output. Crimewatch Roadshow can offer a placement to a candidate who can demonstrate an interest in crime and live TV production. The placement would provide an opportunity to gain experience within a busy production environment.

Welsh language skills are not necessary

Drama – (Cardiff or Roath Lock – Over 18)

The successful applicants would shadow various members of the Drama editorial team including the story department, the Producer, the Series Producer, the Researcher, the Script Editor, the Script Secretary and the Team Assistant.  You will gain a rounded view of all aspects of the editorial process of a long running television show and they would attend meetings on script development, story development, health and safety, tone meetings and logistical meetings as well as having the opportunity to watch some filming.  You will spend time with the researching team, team assistants to see what entry level jobs there are and what they entail.  A key element of this placement would be confidentiality.
