Darlun ADewis

I am a Visual Artist and Researcher and have received several grants from the Arts Council of Wales to develop and realize collaborative arts projects. Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, I have an interest in folk and indigenous cultural performances involving aspects of re-presentation through masking and/or performance. I am particularly interested in the performance aesthetics of the Trinidad Carnival, masquerades and rituals and the potential ways in which an interpretation of these and other manifestations of emancipatory performances, can be relevant to our approach to art-making or art presentations with individuals or groups experiencing forms of displacement or social anxiety. My work engages performances of transformation and explores ways of re-presenting self. My life and experiences as a mother/wife/immigrant have informed aspects of my practice and continues to contribute to the ways in which my work takes shape.
