Artistic director at Jack Philp Company

Areas of expertise:

Darlun Jack Philp

Born in South East England and now living in Cardiff, Jack is a graduate of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance who works as a freelance choreographer and teacher. He has performed work by and shadowed a number of artists and companies nationally and internationally including Studio Wayne McGregor, Henri Oguike, Matthias Sperling, Anna Williams, Scottish Dance Theatre, Rafael Bonachela and Sydney Dance Company. His choreography places collaboration at its heart and has been shared at national venues around the UK including Laban Theatre, The Robin Howard Theatre, The Globe Theatre, The Old Royal Naval College, The Venue: MK and Pavilion Dance South West. As an artist, he is interested in making work with a focus on fusing academic and creative research; finding a meeting point of study and studio. His work is driven by music, a dynamic physicality and accessibility. Jack also works with his own professional company established in 2014; a recent project, supported by Arts Council England and the Cognitive Neuroscience Research Unit at City University, explores emotional responses in the human body when seeing movement and hearing sound. Jack is also a member of the Artist Bank at East London Dance and works as a freelance teacher. He has delivered class and workshops for students at Trinity Laban, Kingston University, ENB Youth Co and Rubicon. He also teaches and creates work for youth projects in the South East of England, with companies including Zambesi Dance Co, Dance Woking and The Dance Movement.

"...inventive, interesting and refreshingly free from the current zeitgeist of dance movement vocabulary..."
- Mary Clipperton

Whilst working and living in Cardiff, Jack is keen to establish new relationships with people in the area and source different opportunities. Whether it be for a coffee or a project, get in touch!
