Creative Cardiff’s 2020 Advisory Group has been announced at the network’s January kick-off event, AMDANI!

The Advisory Group will inform the Creative Cardiff’s plans, fire ambitions and aspirations, and help spread the word about Cardiff’s creative economy, at home and further afield.

Made up of creatives across Cardiff from sectors including architecture, dance, design, marketing, film and music, the Group will gather three times a year to reflect and advise on Creative Cardiff’s work.

The Advisory Group members are: Alexia J.A Barrett, Amanda Spence, Bethan Elfyn, Bethan Gordon, Dylan Huw, Dr Francesca Sobande, Gareth I. Davies, Isobel Mary Smathers, Mair Jones, Richie Turner and Dr Thania Acarón.

  • Alexia is a final year undergraduate journalism student at Cardiff University and an aspiring novelist and presenter.
  • Amanda is a fully-qualified architect and co-founder of ALT-Architecture. 
  • Bethan Elfyn presents a specialist music show every Saturday night on BBC Radio Wales and runs the Horizons Project a collaboration between the BBC and Arts Council of Wales.
  • Bethan Gordon is a Human Centred Designer who works in academia contributing to the development the next generation of artist and designers. 
  • Dylan is a Grangetown-based writer who works in National Theatre Wales' Creative Development department. 
  • Francesca is a Lecturer in Digital Media Studies at Cardiff University’s School of Journalism, Media and Culture. 
  • Gareth is an experienced TV Drama and Feature Film Line Producer, credits include the BIFA nominated and BAFTA Cymru award winning film The Passing, Craig Roberts directorial debut Just Jim and many other award-winning productions.
  • Isobel is employed as a Lecturer and Technician within Cardiff and Vale College’s Creative Department. She is also a freelance curator, artist and designer. 
  • Mair has worked in arts marketing and communications roles at Chapter, Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru and currently Wales Millennium Centre, alongside freelance projects for National Theatre Wales, Wales in Venice and others. 
  • Richie runs the Startup Stiwdio at the University of South Wales Cardiff Campus where he supports creative industry and digital startup companies. 
  • Thania is a lecturer, performer, choreographer and dance movement psychotherapist from Puerto Rico.

Launching the Advisory Group at AMDANI!, Creative Cardiff Project Manager Vicki Sutton, said: "Since Creative Cardiff’s creation, there has been continued engagement with the industry in various forms through events, focus groups, surveys and many many one-to-one meetings! After four years, and for this next chapter, we have taken the steps to form an advisory group to further strengthen our connection with the creative community.

"The 11 members have been chosen because of their energy, focus, and experience, and because they represent a wide range of sectors and experiences."
