Purpose of the post:

The Assembly Commission is responsible for providing the services needed by the Assembly to fulfil its parliamentary functions.

Communicating with the people of Wales is a key strategic function, especially engaging with the young people of Wales.

The Assembly's Education and Youth Engagement Team provides a range of educational programmes on the Assembly's estate and in educational establishments across Wales to accomplish the three key aims of the     Assembly's Charter for Children and Young People. The first aim is to inspire more young people to participate in the Assembly's work. The second is to offer more opportunities to discuss and ensure that young people's opinions are considered by Assembly Members. The third aim is to provide feedback, ensure that young people see the worth in engaging with the Assembly's work.

The Assembly is committed to provide opportunities for children and young people to engage and learn about the work of the Assembly. This role focuses on providing an outreach programme for young people in South Wales, but there will be opportunities to contribute to events across Wales. There will be an opportunity to review our current programmes and to develop provision in line with the  Engagement and Youth Team Manager (which is also currently being advertised).

The postholder will work with colleagues in the Education and Youth Engagement department to support the work of Wales' new Youth Parliament, and will play a key role in supporting young representatives. The postholder will play an important role in organising meetings and events for the representatives in South Wales, including residential weekends in Cardiff.

The successful applicant will be accountable to the Youth Engagement Team Manager, and will work with others within the team, with responsibility for the Welsh Youth Parliament programme, providing youth engagement services across the estate in Cardiff Bay.
