You will enable the rapid delivery of high quality, customer-focused services to meet and exceed customer experience and usability requirements whilst providing technical leadership to the software engineering community as mentor, exemplar of best practice and community leader.

Skills and experience you’ll need to have

  • Educated to degree level and/or equivalent professional experience
  • Capability of at least two modern programming languages including C#, .NET., PHP, Scala, Java, JavaScript, Ruby or Elixir
  • Experience leading major change initiatives with wide technology scope
  • Ability and experience designing, developing and supporting high performance web applications at scale
  • Knowledge and experience with XP principles such as pair programming, CI and TDD
  • Experience designing and developing commercial web sites using a mix of modern technologies and techniques
  • Proven in one or more problem/technology domains e.g. web, mobile, open source etc.
  • OO/FP design and development skills (SOLID, DRY, patterns etc) and ability to teach to others
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, agile environment
  • Wide-reaching knowledge of available technologies
  • Experience leading and delivering through others and leading people through change
  • Ability to identify, design and implement key technical software solutions that offer increased strategic value
  • Ability to design scalable service architectures with modern solutions such as REST, HATEOS or GraphQL
  • Understanding of web/software performance with ability to guide teams to reach objectives
  • Experienced in open-source contributions along with strong community involvement

  • Taking solution design and shaping responsibility over key business domains
  • Leading key business initiatives that span multiple delivery areas
  • Working in an agile, team-driven approach with a track record of influencing beyond the immediate team
  • Using data to drive decision making
  • Exploring new opportunities opened up by new technology innovations
  • Leading in the local tech and open source communities
  • Facilitation of technical discussion across teams/departments as well as the professional development and learning opportunities for software engineering team members

Who you’ll be working with

  • Liaises with external partners and suppliers as required
  • Works with the testing team to ensure a high level of quality in development output
  • Works with wider tech management team, ensuring one vision is being worked towards
  • Works with all engineering team to promote best engineering practices and solutions
