Story Poster Illustrator Tender Brief

Overview of Creative Cardiff

Creative Cardiff is a city network based at Cardiff University which connects people working in any creative organisation, business or job in the Cardiff region. We connect the creative economy across the Cardiff region, promoting and enabling collaboration for economic, cultural and social benefit. By encouraging people to work together we believe that we can make Cardiff the most creative place it can be.

In 2020, Creative Cardiff has chosen to champion Community Gateway by partnering on events, raising awareness of their work and connecting more creatives with the project. Community Gateway is a Cardiff University engagement programme to broker university and community partnerships in Grangetown.

The brief

To mark and celebrate the opening of the new Grange Pavilion, Creative Cardiff and Community Gateway will join forces to bring to life an embodiment of the Pavilion’s redevelopment. This storytelling project will profile a selection of stories marking milestones from the Pavilion’s redevelopment journey. These may include the Pavilion’s journey to creation, the hopes of residents, the involvement of creatives and creative activity. We will provide the illustrator with the milestone stories.

Find out more about the Grange Pavilion redevelopment.

We would like to work with an illustrator to produce artwork for a story poster print which will be unveiled on the day of the launch of the Pavilion and then will have a permanent place on the walls of the Pavilion. The artwork should take the form of an A2 print with up to 10 different cells depicting the story within it. Each cell should include an image (and possibly some words in multiple languages – we will provide any text) encapsulating an element of the Grange Pavilion’s redevelopment story.

We are looking for an illustrator who has a passion for Grangetown and will be excited to bring the story of the Pavilion’s redevelopment to life.

Budget

We do not have a fixed budget for this commission so would encourage artists to think about how they would wish to approach the project as a whole. This is a community project with limited resources, and we would ask applicants to be mindful of this when tendering. Cost will not be the only measure against which quotes will be evaluated but will obviously play a significant part in our considerations. Please include design and material costs within your quotation including printing and framing.

Format of responses required

Proposals should include:

  • A one-page outline of the approach that will be taken to delivering the artwork and print.
  • Please provide examples of your previous work and contact details of two referees.
  • A detailed cost breakdown.

All submissions should be sent to Vicki Sutton by Monday, 9 March at 9am. Tenders will not be accepted after this time.

Should you wish to have a call about the brief, please email SuttonV@cardiff.ac.uk to arrange a time.
