A 2-day workshop in portraiture, designed to immerse you in the creation of an oil painting. Plus, absolutely ALL materials are provided for the weekend, making it perfect for someone wanting to try oil paints for the first time. Simply arrive with a thirst to learn and wear clothes you don’t mind getting a bit messy. Everything else is laid out for you in a relaxed studio environment, with the emphasis firmly on having fun! No expensive kit lists and we use Rosemary & Co brushes and Michael Harding oil paints. The workshops run from 10am until 5pm each day and all this for only £160!

Day 1:

On the Saturday we’ll go through the step-by-step process of building a portrait in oils. The aim of the first day is to produce an initial gesture drawing and then follow it up with a tonal study. Students can work from life or from reference photos.

Day 2:

Sunday is all about colour! Working over the top of your dry tonal study, you’ll then be guided through the 12-step colour wheel, taught how to release your colour and how to push your portrait towards its completion.

The workshop is accessible for the complete beginner to oil paints, but results can be dependent on the level of individual’s drawing experience. Don’t worry though, the emphasis of the workshop is on having fun with this exciting medium and starting you off on your artistic journey on the right foot!
