Estelle Wilkinson

Founder at Talks On Tour

Areas of expertise:

I haven’t written a CV or biography in decades.....I worked in the music Industry for 20 years starting as a radio promoter in the early 90’s before moving into music management. I managed Coldplay for a number of years starting work for them during the Parachutes album and taking on the role as co-manager for the ‘Rush of Blood to the Head’ and ‘X & Y’ albums. In 2010 I relocated to Wales.

I worked as general manager of Kate Humble’s business ‘Humble by Nature’ for 3 years and as Project manager of The Big Day Out festival in Monmouthshire and the Gorillaz curated ‘Demon Dayz’ festival in Margate last summer. I’m a national advisor for Arts Council Wales, a mentor for the Forte project and director of Velvet Coalmine Arts festival in Blackwood.

I set up Talks on Tour last year as a way to help people discover what roles exitst in the live and music industries. It is a growing sector and has huge employment possibilities but is a bit of mystery as far as career opportunities and even worse at advertising it’s roles to the wider public.

I hold in conversation style talks at a venue on a show day with a number of crew members and people who work with artists and comedians. We aim to educate and inspire people about the variety of roles that exist and what skills they need to do the job. To tell them that being a tour accountant is a job that actually exists, what a Tour manager actually does and how you learn to become a touring technician in sound or lighting. I feel passionate about the creative industries and the potential they offer to our young people.
